Ray, who runs the Thursday sessions is arranging an organising an opportunity for artists and models to attend the Life Model Sculptural Studio Session at the China Academy of Arts (CAA) in Hangzhou, China. The sessions run for either 8 weeks (full size sculpture) or 4.5 weeks (1/2 size sculpture).
This sounds like an amazing experience for both artists and models. You can find out more about the experience and how to join here.

First post in almost six years to let you all know about a one off event that sounds cool
Crazy to think it’s been since January 2018 since I last posted. But I found out about an awesome sounding life drawing event happening tomorrow night (December 5th) from 6-8:30pm that I wanted to share.
The Mind Body Heart Studio, in partnership with Milktooth, are hosting a yoga drawing session:
Milktooth is partnering with our friends across the lane, The Mind Body Heart Studio to offer a unique opportunity to explore your creativity.
Join us to explore how 2 wonderfully creative art forms not only combine wonderfully, but also nurture and reveal each other, especially in people who think themselves as “neither flexible, nor artistic”…
What to expect:
We will warm up with yoga movements to loosen the body and brain, getting physically and mentally ready to learn new techniques and concepts.
We will progressively integrate playful exercises to get familiar with the basics of pencil drawing, leading to having a go at modelling yoga postures & representing them on paper.
Group & paired work, no one is expected to be singled out and pose for the rest unless willing to! This is all about fun & discovery in a safe, supportive, lighthearted environment.
All welcome _ NO prior experience required.
What to wear / bring: water – comfy yoga clothes.
Drawing material & yoga mats / props provided to all.
Option to BYO if preferred.
It’s $25 for the session, and bookings can be made here (or for those not a fan of clicking on suspect text links: https://mindbodyheart.com.au/events/yoga-life-drawing/ ).
Happy drawing everybody!
An instructed session to start the year with, and a refresh for the Curtin group and some good stuff at Atwell this weekend!
Greetings all and a holy new year!
First up, yours truly is running some drawing sessions on Fridays in February. These are at the Art Space Collective in Scarborough from 10-12:30pm.
Full details on the sessions and to sign up can be found here, and the Facebook event is here.
The Curtin group has updated their website, and it can now be found here and they have a full line up of upcoming models, and there are some great ones on the list.
And speaking of great things happening at groups, the Atwell group on Sunday’s have been cracking lately, so much so that they’ll be having two sessions this coming Sunday. The morning session from 9-12 is standard fare with two models, with the afternoon session (12:30-3:30) a seated portrait session with a model who will apparently be heading back to France soon. Sounds like awesome stuff.
Happy drawing people!
Figure Drawing at The Art Space Collective
One last reminder that I’m running a Figure Drawing workshop over four Saturdays starting 22nd August at The Art Space Collective (80A Scarborough Beach Rd, Scarborough). There are two spaces left!
To sign up for find out more, head on over to their site. (it’s under the ‘Book a class’ option.)
A model update, general info, and some drawing classes
Greetings all,
Terribly sorry about this late update!
Thank you everyone for coming out lately, the last couple of weeks have seen the numbers start to bounce back after quite a dip. I guess tea and coffee was all it took?
Our model for this coming Monday (the 3rd) will be Ron. The following week will be with a new model model, Shontay.
In news about other sessions:
Tracy’s Drawing School will be on again tomorrow (the 2nd), and from then through to the end of September, anyone who heads out will get a stamp for my group on their card (like what I did with Sebastian’s Mt Hawthorn group when it first started). Head on over to drawingschool.com.au to find out more about her group.
As the numbers have started to slide back down for Sebastian’s group, we’ve decided to reinstate the stamp system at his group through to the end of August, so get out there people!
The Curtin Tuesday night group will be back this week (the 4th) after a brief hiatus with what sounds to be a pretty cool clothed session.
Drawing Classes!
Earlier this year I did a two week workshop at The Art Space Collective in Scarborough. Well I’m doing it again, and due to feedback it’s changed a bit.
First off, it will be over four weeks, and be on Saturdays from 2-5pm (as opposed to middle of the week during the day as it was before). The first two weeks will be without a model as it covers drawing techniques and the basics, while the following two weeks will have a model to apply those techniques on in an instructed environment.
Anyone interested can head over to https://theartspacecollective.com/bookings to sign up.
And that’s it!
Keep drawing, but please don’t hurt people while doing so!
