Terribly sorry about this late update!
Thank you everyone for coming out lately, the last couple of weeks have seen the numbers start to bounce back after quite a dip. I guess tea and coffee was all it took?
Our model for this coming Monday (the 3rd) will be Ron. The following week will be with a new model model, Shontay.
In news about other sessions:
Tracy’s Drawing School will be on again tomorrow (the 2nd), and from then through to the end of September, anyone who heads out will get a stamp for my group on their card (like what I did with Sebastian’s Mt Hawthorn group when it first started). Head on over to drawingschool.com.au to find out more about her group.
As the numbers have started to slide back down for Sebastian’s group, we’ve decided to reinstate the stamp system at his group through to the end of August, so get out there people!
The Curtin Tuesday night group will be back this week (the 4th) after a brief hiatus with what sounds to be a pretty cool clothed session.
Earlier this year I did a two week workshop at The Art Space Collective in Scarborough. Well I’m doing it again, and due to feedback it’s changed a bit.
First off, it will be over four weeks, and be on Saturdays from 2-5pm (as opposed to middle of the week during the day as it was before). The first two weeks will be without a model as it covers drawing techniques and the basics, while the following two weeks will have a model to apply those techniques on in an instructed environment.
Anyone interested can head over to https://theartspacecollective.com/bookings to sign up.
And that’s it!
Keep drawing, but please don’t hurt people while doing so!
First up, thank you to everyone who came out on Monday, it’s been a while since we were filled to maximum occupancy like that, which was great to see (especially with so many new faces).
Next week we have something different. Firstly, we will be having Marnie in, which is a first for… oh, two years now? And she also happens to be about 34 weeks pregnant. Which means that this will most likely be the last time we have her in. To compliment her, we’ll also be having Ron in. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Ron, he is an older, and very skinny, individual, which should make for a great contrast to Marnie.
Fringe Festival Events!
One of our regulars, Chris, is doing an outdoor portrait session as part of the festival and will be doing so Feb 6th and 7th from 8pm onwards. He is set up by the the Perth Cultural Centre and will be drawing people using his tablet. The process of doing so will be displayed on the wall while he works, which is a really fun thing to see. Actually, here’s the blurb from the Fringe page: The event can be described as live projected street portraiture — a very traditional practice combined with digital tablets and video projection. Highly regarded by judges at the Gertrude Street Projection Festival 2014, Cinema Portraits is a public engagement in which the audience becomes the spectacle. Become immortalised on the walls of Perth’s Cultural Centre as crowds look up to a building sized portrait of yourself as depicted by the Perth artist Chris Lawrence.
Secondly, a life model who we have never been able to get in (but I have tried numerous times, it always comes down to bad timing) is doing a solo cabaret show about what it’s like to be a model. It also concludes with a life drawing session, and sounds really interesting. It runs for two nights next week (the 11-12th). You can find out more and purchase tickets here.
Happy drawing everyone!

Good evening everyone, it was just pointed out to me today that I hadn’t updated with any info lately, so I do apologise
Tomorrow night (the 19th) we’ll be having a double model session with long time regular Ron, and new face from Thailand, Jean (those of you who go to the Floreat sessions will recognise her as she’s been in at least twice in the last three months).
After that we’ll be having: 26 May – single session with Eila, a newer face to the life modelling scene, and the first time we’ll be having her in. 2 June – No session due to the holiday. 9 June – double model session with Tess, and Captain America himself, Joel. 16 June – clothed session with the always great Victoria in her best burlesque outfits. 23 June – double model session first for us with two female models, the always happy Amy and the soon to be heading back overseas Milly for what will be the last time we’ll be having her in.
And now the other info!
The Tuesday night session at Curtin being run by Mike apparently went really well last week. Just a note that the classes are now going to start at 6:15 and are on level 5. He also has a blog running at http://experimentaldwg.wordpress.com
I hope everyone is doing well this wonderfully wet weekend.
Only three sessions left for the year, and then the Friday after that we’ll be having our show. Tomorrow night (the 2nd) we’ll have Jane as our model. The following week will be Ron, and the last session (the 16th) will see a new model for us (and Perth in general as she’s an overseas student just here for a year), Milly. I hope to see quite a few of you over the next three weeks.
Just a quick message to let you know that next week we’ll be having in Ron as our model. The following week (the 24th) we’ll be having in Lindsay who we have not had in in ages as she is always working on Monday nights.
We have had a change of model for tomorrow nights session as Victoria is unfortunately no longer available on Mondays. Our new model for the evening will be Chloe. The following week we’ll be having in Ron.
Ron was in on the 22nd and the musical themes was the likes of U2 and The Cure. I didn’t run the session so I have no pictures to show from the work that was done (I’m going to need to sort that out).
On the 29th we had Sophie in for another great session. Musial theme was a bit different for the evening with Stereolab, Porno for Pyros, Sneaker Pimps and The Rentals carrying us through the evening. Pictures from the night are below.
Tomorrow night (the 5th), we’ll be having Marnie in which is going to be fun.
