Burning through the year

We’re burning through to the end of the year at a fantastic rate, only a few weeks left for us for the year.
This coming Monday (the 18th) we’ll be having a new face in for us – Amy (though she has been modelling for about two years now). The following our model will be Nin, and on December 2nd Jane will be joining us.

Usually we finish up the first Monday into December, but seeing as to how we’re having the show in December, I’ve decided to continue the sessions up till the 16th to give us all some extra time to produce some work. And speaking of the show, I’m starting to put together some promotional material and I’d like to hear if any of you have any names for the show that you’d like to put forward for consideration. Last year I picked it myself, but I think it’d be great to get some feedback from everyone.

A model update and shows!

Greetings all,

Our great turnout has been continuing, which is good as we head towards the final stretch of the year.

Tomorrow night (the 4th) we’ll be having Chloé as our model, and the following week (the 11th) we’ll be having Kieran in. During the session with Kieran we’ll be trying something a bit different during the longer poses: over the semester that had just finished we had Kieran as one of our models for the drawing unit, and in one of the weeks we were projecting images on to his body (such as animal textures and a skeleton). This produced some fantastic imagery to draw and I think it’ll be fun to give it a go. If everyone enjoys it, I’ll do the same thing with Jane when we have her in at the beginning of December (as she was one of the other models we had in for the classes).

And in other news, if any of you are wondering what to do after you Cup festivities have finished on Tuesday, why not swing by the Cullity Gallery (the one next to our drawing room) and come on out to have a look at the Honours Exhibition and have a drink? It’s actually comprises two bodies of work by myself and my fellow Honours student (and some-time drawing participant) Valdene. Tuesday night from 6-8 and the show comes down the next day. The invite is below:

And in regards to shows and our drawing group, I have booked out the Cullity for us to do another drawing exhibition this year. It’ll be for one weekend only, setup is December 18th-19th, we’ll have a drinks night on the 20th, the show will run over the weekend and people can take down their works Sunday evening or on Monday. Same rules as last time: life drawing work only, and you’d have to been out to at least one of our sessions this year (and the drawings are not limited solely to ones done in our group).
So let me know if you want in as it is open to all!

Happy drawing everybody!
– Christopher

A bunch of updates

Greetings all,
We’ve had a fantastic turnout here at the Monday night session at UWA for the last few weeks now with loads of new faces (both with the models and the drawers) which has been some great fun.

As this coming Monday (the 30th) is a holiday, there will be no session that night. We’ll be back the following week (October 7th) with Victoria as our model for the evening. Sebastián will also be running that session for me that night as I am anticipating being far too knackered after running the 24 Hour Comic challenge to run it myself.

Next up, one of our regulars, Rosey, is having her first solo show of her work and it opens next Wednesday (the 2nd). I’ve attached the flyer with all of the details, so now no one has a reason not to head out on a Wednesday night (well, unless you happen to have a two year old like me, in which case you can head out during the day).

I’m going to give everyone another quick reminder about the 24 Hour Comics Day challenge that takes place October 5-6. If you want in just head over to 24hcdperth.com and fill out the online form.

And last but not least, our group art show. I’ve been asked by quite a few people as to if we’ll be having one again, so I finally looked in to the gallery’s availability. If we wanted to have it before Xmas, then the only time available would be between December 18th-23rd. Essentially just the weekend before Xmas. If we were to do it, I’d say we set up Dec 19-20, have an open night on the 20th, stay open over the weekend, then take things down the evening of the 22nd (Sunday) and the 23rd. The same rules as last time would apply: can be life drawing work only, and is limited only to people who have come out this year to a session (though the drawings put up do not have to actually be from one of our sessions, they can be from another group). I’d love to hear some feedback from people to know what they think.

See you all in a couple of weeks!

New models and new photos

Greetings everybody,

We’ve been having a quite busy couple of weeks lately which has been great. Especially as there have been so many new faces, which is always a pleasure.

We have new models for us over the next two weeks. Emily will be joining us on Monday (Sept 2nd), and Alvin will be posing for us the following week.

And now some pictures from the last couple of sessions when we had Jess and David in:

A little, late, update

Greetings all,
I do apologise for posting this model info so late. This coming Monday (the 19th), we have a new model for us, Jess, coming in. It’s always a treat to have a new model in so that is exciting.
The following week (the 26th) we’ll be having David in. I believe this may be the first time for the year that we’ve had him in as he is usually out of the city whenever I try to book him in.
Happy drawing everybody!

Model update, info and an onslaught of images

Greetings all,

We’ve been having a a couple of slow weeks at the UWA group lately, which is a bit of shame as people have been missing out on some great models with Chloé and Travis, but understandable given the weather.

Over the next two weeks, Sebastian will be running the sessions for me. The models for the sessions he will be running are Jane on the 5th and Trent on the 12th.

Just a reminder that Chris’ art show I posted about the other week will be opening this Friday at ArtLaab. So if you’re looking for something to do on Friday night, head one out to look at art and have some drinks. Here’re the details:

I’ll be back on Aug 19th, happy drawing till then people.

And now images from over the last month or so:

A model update and some other news

Greetings all!

We had a slow night on Monday with Sebastián running the show. Can’t say I blame you all though, the weather was terrible.

This Monday (the 22nd) we’ll be having Chloe in, which will be great as it has been over a year since we last had her in. On the 27th Travis will be our model for the night.

In other news, I’ll be updating the blog shortly in regards to Wednesday evening sessions as they have now moved to Erwin’s studio. Make sure to call ahead as seating is limited.

And lastly, one of our UWA regulars, Chris Poole, is having a solo show at Artlaab (just across the road from where we are located) next month. The details are:
Fractions (new works 2013)
6pm Friday August 2nd for the opening night, then 11-4 from the 3rd-8th.
Artlaab’s actual address is No. 6 Broadway, Crawley (the old Black Swan Theatre Co. building).
