Model info for some groups about town!

Greetings all,

I hope you folks haven’t been letting the weather keep you from heading out to do some drawing (sadly, I am using that excuse for myself).

Over the next few weeks, the Shenton Park Monday night group has a few models lined up:

  • April 18th is Amy
  • April 25th is Anzac Day so no life drawing that evening
  • 2nd May is Jane
  • 8th May is Joe, the first male so far with the group

And over at The Art Space Collective, their fortnightly Drawing Theatre sessions will continue on April 28th (7-9pm) with Jane.

Happy doodles everyone!

Final model update and a big whoops!

Greetings all, Firstly, an incredibly huge apology for forgetting to post about the session we had this week! It was a great one with the delightful Amy and new for us (and first time back after a 20 year hiatus, bodybuilder Shaun. Thankfully we still had a great turnout!

We also had a fantastic turnout the week before. Now I’m not sure if it was because it was Xanthea and Martha, or because it was a clothed session. Regardless it was crazy, and I will make sure to have more of all of that next year!

For our final session on the 14th, well, I didn’t think I could top the wonderful duos we have had of late, but I may have just done so (or at the least tied), as we will be having in the lovely Victoria and the awesome Hayley! I am personally happy to have Hayley in as she is no longer available on Monday nights, so it has been quite awhile for us.

So that’s it, just on more session for us this year!

On that note, before I forget; for those interested the Sunday group at Atwell is going to continue running through out the holiday season. Check out the Sunday section for more details, but basically they are now regularly having in two models per session, and have one doing a long pose whilst the other does shorter poses. Pretty cool I must say.

Cheers – Christopher

A model update and a session on a holiday

Greetings all,

Tomorrow night (the 21st), we’ll be having Victoria in for the evening.

The following week (the 28th) will be a holiday session, and Jules has been awesome enough to yes to running the session. For that night we’ll be having Amy in for the evening. Please not that there will be no coffee or tea on this night as Jules will not be able to access the urn which we use for this. My apologies to everybody for that.

Cheerio!

A late model update and a new drawing group!

Greetings all,

Sorry about my tardiness of late (why does it take so long to catch up on things after coming back from vacation?)!

This coming Monday (the 22nd ) we’ll be having in one of our regular models, Amy, along with new to the scene Molly!

In other news, I’ve recently received some thorough information on the Thursday morning sessions and I’ll be updating that on Monday.

And quite excitingly, there is a NEW Sunday session, which is also a bit of a drink and draw. I’ll let newer-to-our-group Tracy explain it all:

Starting this Sunday June 21st, we kick off our fortnightly Life Drawing sessions at Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den, upstairs at The Brisbane Hotel.

The session will consist of timed poses from warm-up gesture drawings to longer poses, in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Everyone welcome, but please note these sessions are directed to designers and those with some life drawing experience, as sessions are not formally tutored, although plenty of encouraging guidance from me, and a brief show & tell at the end. Fun!

You’re welcome to bring a beverage from the Brissie downstairs (encouraged, actually!).

WHEN: Every second Sunday, 4pm – 6.30pm, with a short break (NB Sunday 19th July will be 5pm-7.30pm)

WHERE: Upstairs at The Brisbane Hotel, 292 Beaufort St, Perth (stairway near the pool tables). Plenty of adjacent parking.

BRING: paper, charcoal, pencils, kneaded eraser (see drawingschool.com.au/FAQ).

COST: $20 cash (no eftpos).

Contact me (Tracy) if you have any questions on infoATdrawingschool.com.au (just replace ‘AT’ in the address with a ‘@’) or 0412 192 694

Some model updates and no session Sep 29th

Good evening all, sorry again about the late update (I do not know where the weekends keep going).

Tomorrow night (the 22nd), we’ll be having a solo session with Nicola. Well, I say a solo session, but the model who I booked in last week on short notice for a cancellation but no-showed us may turn up thinking that I had intended to book her in for this week. I don’t know as I haven’t been able to reach her. It’s like a a box-o-chocolate life drawing session, you never know who’ll turn up! (I jest, I always feel bad when a model doesn’t turn up so I do apologise for that.)

There will be no session on the 29th due to the public holiday (Labour day in a Liberal state? How can that stand?).

When we return on the 6th, Sebastian will be running the session for me (as I’ll be recovering from running the 24 Hour Comics Day event the weekend before). The models for that night will be Amy with Trent.

And the following week (the 13th), we’ll be having in Victoria who is back in Perth. The first hour will be nude drawing, and for the second hour Victoria will be wearing some of her Moulin Rouge finest. This should be something to see.

Happy drawing everyone!

A clothed model update

Good afternoon everyone, and a happy Friday the 13th!
We’ve been having some great turnouts lately with lots of new faces which is always great to see.
This coming Monday, for our clothed session, we’ll be having a new model in by the name of Beth. Beth owns a vintage clothing store and will be wearing a couple of fancy of outfits from her inventory which will be awesome I’m sure.
The following week will be our first double female session with Tess and Amy!
Cheers

A huge model update and some info!

Good evening everyone, it was just pointed out to me today that I hadn’t updated with any info lately, so I do apologise

Tomorrow night (the 19th) we’ll be having a double model session with long time regular Ron, and new face from Thailand, Jean (those of you who go to the Floreat sessions will recognise her as she’s been in at least twice in the last three months).
After that we’ll be having:
26 May – single session with Eila, a newer face to the life modelling scene, and the first time we’ll be having her in.
2 June – No session due to the holiday.
9 June – double model session with Tess, and Captain America himself, Joel.
16 June – clothed session with the always great Victoria in her best burlesque outfits.
23 June – double model session first for us with two female models, the always happy Amy and the soon to be heading back overseas Milly for what will be the last time we’ll be having her in.

*Whew*

And now the other info!

The Tuesday night session at Curtin being run by Mike apparently went really well last week. Just a note that the classes are now going to start at 6:15 and are on level 5. He also has a blog running at http://experimentaldwg.wordpress.com

Happy drawing everyone!

The new format and a model update

Greetings everyone,
We had a cracking first double model session with Kieran and Amy last week.

The double session last week also means that we will beginning our new regular rotation from next week which is: 4 weeks of single model sessions (female/male/female/male), 1 clothed model session, 1 double model session, then we start over again. To help everyone keep track of the dates, the next double session is on May 5th (it’s seven weeks away as April 21st is a holiday)

If the numbers stay similar to what we have been having lately, I will also be looking into arranging the odd double session (which I would let everyone know about beforehand), and if I do it would be during the second female session.

The new rotation also means that the rate will be going up to $15 a session from the 24th, (for which we will be having Lucy in as our model for the evening, followed by David, a new model to Perth, the following week) but every sixth session you attend will be free.

I’ve also updated some of the info on the site here as well including amendments to Friday and Sunday sessions, a newish Thursday session and new instructed sessions being taught by one of our former models, Kiah.

Cheers all,
– Christopher

A UWA model update and loads of info

Greetings all,
We had an absolutely massive turnout last week which was just crazy. I think I can safely say that 30 people is the the breaking point for our humble little room. But think you everyone who came out, I will try a modified layout on Monday to see if I can make things more comfortable (say by removing some of the tables and such).

The next model
This coming Monday we continue the newness of the year by having in yet another new model for us, Joel. I am quite interested in seeing what he looks like as apparently his upper body physique is so impressive that he was described as looking like Captain America. So this ought to be good.

No session
After that, there will be no session on March 3rd due to the public holiday.

Clothed model
When we come back on March 10th, we will have the first of what will be a regularly occurring event for us, a clothed model. In this case one of our regular models, Jane, will be dressed in her finest cabaret outfit for us. The time format for these nights may shift slightly based on the model/clothing.

Double session
And then after that on March 17th, another new regular event for us will be starting with us having two models in at the same time. For our first double-night we’ll be having Kieran and Amy in for the night. This will be really exciting as it will allow us to have have both short and long poses going on at the same time where one model is still for 20 minutes while the other goes through 5 and 10 minute poses. This is something I have wanted to do for a while so I am quite excited to finally get this off of the ground.

Weekly format
After this, we’ll be going to our new six week rotation of having four regular model sessions, a clothed session and then a double session.

Lighting
I am also looking into getting some proper lighting for the room. Those of you who joined the group last year wouldn’t know what I’m talking about, but those from before then may remember the nice bright spotlights we used to have. Unfortunately, they were really bright, and once we changed the layout of the room to have the model in the centre of the room there was no where to position them that wouldn’t blind an entire row of people trying to draw. So now I am looking into getting some professional spotlights that I could possibly hang from the ceiling for our sessions. I’ve only just started looking, but if any of you have photo or artwork hanging experience and can help point me in the right direction that would be great.

The dropping of the other boot
All of this does come with a drawback though, and that is that from March 24th (the new model cycle), the session rate will be going up to $15. I will be giving out a stamp cards though and you’ll get a stamp for every session you come to with the sixth one being free. Which means that if you come out regularly the double model session won’t cost you a thing, and means that if you average the cost over the six sessions the rate is actually $12.50.
This is due to factors such as the fact the hourly rate I pay models has gone up over the years whereas I’ve been charging the same amount. It also helps to create a buffer for when we have slower nights, which inevitably happens over the winter months where we go down to nights with a few as 6-8 people. The buffer will also assist with refreshments for our annual exhibition.

If anybody does have any questions about anything in this email, please feel free to email me or just ask me in the weekly session.

Oh yeah, one other thing, if any of you are looking for drawing supplies, there is a new supplier in town (though their main thing seems to be catering to Uni students, they do deliver to everybody). Feel free to check them out: http://www.facebook.com/penandincbureau

Cheers

Burning through the year

We’re burning through to the end of the year at a fantastic rate, only a few weeks left for us for the year.
This coming Monday (the 18th) we’ll be having a new face in for us – Amy (though she has been modelling for about two years now). The following our model will be Nin, and on December 2nd Jane will be joining us.

Usually we finish up the first Monday into December, but seeing as to how we’re having the show in December, I’ve decided to continue the sessions up till the 16th to give us all some extra time to produce some work. And speaking of the show, I’m starting to put together some promotional material and I’d like to hear if any of you have any names for the show that you’d like to put forward for consideration. Last year I picked it myself, but I think it’d be great to get some feedback from everyone.
